February 2014- Week 2

ORGANIZATION SKILLS
This week was very effective. As next week is the due date of first draft of the PP Report, I managed to get most of the things done. I have finished Criterion B, C, and E. I only have one subsection not done for criterion D, in which I am still not sure to write about.
COMMUNICATION WITH SUPERVISOR
As mentioned, I got confused with a subsection in criterion D, the applying information to develop understanding. This said, I emailed Mr. Pat and asked him whether or not I can talk about it on Monday.
INFORMATION

As mentioned before, I focused on my report this week. I have finished Criterion B, C, E, and currently working on to finish Criterion D. Again, I am not clear about the ‘Information to Develop Understanding’ subsection, and so I have to ask Mr. Pat about it first before Tuesday.

February 2014- Week 1

ORGANIZATION SKILLS
This week was the week that the final product is due. As written in the previous process journal, I couldn’t finish five cakes as I planned before. However, I am satisfied with the results. I also had 30 questionnaires distributed (10 students, 10 teachers, 10 adults).
COMMUNICATION WITH SUPERVISOR
This week, I had another PP meeting in which the product of the personal project is due. During the PP meeting, Mr. Pat explained and pointed out things to get a maximum grade in every each criterion in the PP report. He told us to follow the criteria, and to remember to not miss anything. He told us to reflect on how much we have grown as a learner and also as an individual.
INFORMATION

Aside from the PP meeting, I didn’t do much this week. I distributed the questionnaires and I got all of them back already. I will definitely start to write my PP report as soon as possible and get the first draft done.

January 2014- Week 4

ORGANIZATION SKILLS
Similar like last week, I didn’t do anything with my cakes due to the humidity caused by the rainy season. The rain has caused the fondant too be very wet and therefore impossible to work with. As I have tried to work the wet fondant last week but wasn’t successful, I decided to change my design specifications as the Personal Project product is due next week. I will still be doing and displaying five cakes in the exhibition, but my design specifications will consist only of three cakes.
COMMUNICATION WITH SUPERVISOR
I immediately contacted Mr. Patrick this week, knowing that it is impossible to finish five cakes as the weather is still rainy. I asked him how I thought this problem would negatively impact my product score in the final assessment. Mr. Pat said that this was not my fault. If my specification only specifies for a cake and I don’t have it, then that is a problem. However, my specification specifies of five cakes and I could only finish three not because I am slacking off, but because the weather has not been supportive for the past three weeks. Mr. Pat’s solution is to change my design specifications to three cakes, although I am still doing five cakes to display in the exhibition. This said, this problem would not lower my product assessment score.
INFORMATION

Again, I barely did anything related to my personal project these three weeks due to the heavy rain. I wasn’t able to work with the sticky and wet fondant caused by the humidity of the rainy weather. As this becomes a major problem, I could not finish my last two cakes, though I might try to finish them before Tuesday if it does not rain. This said, I also changed my design specifications, which were supposedly five cakes to only three cakes. I also decided to use a wood board to display my cakes, with each wood painted based on the theme.

January 2014- Week 3

ORGANIZATION SKILLS
I didn’t do anything with my cakes this week due to the rainy season. My fondant gets very wet and very hard to work with. I tried to work with it but it turned out to be a disaster. I am planning to do everything next week before the due date, and this is definitely going to be the biggest challenge.
COMMUNICATION WITH SUPERVISOR
This week, I went to Mr. Pat and asked for suggestions regarding the problems I encountered. He said that I will have to try to finish the cakes next week.
INFORMATION

As mentioned before, I didn’t do anything this week as all my fondant is wet. Wet fondant is very hard to work with, as it is sticky. This said, I could not do anything. The fondant needs to at least rest for 1-2 days in a hot day temperature for it to dry. I will try to finish my cakes next week and directly transfer them to my dad’s office.

January 2014- Week 2

ORGANIZATION SKILLS
This week was actually very effective. I spent a lot of time working on cake three and managed to finish it. Though however, the rainy season has again created humidity that prevented me in being productive. I know I could have done so much more if there were no rain. Nevertheless, I still managed to cover my Indonesian cake with fondant, and planning on finishing it by Thursday next week.
COMMUNICATION WITH SUPERVISOR
This week, the whole grade had the PP essay meeting. I didn’t communicate with Mr. Pat directly, but I remembered that he said to ask Mrs. Rebecca whether or not I should bring my products on the due date this month. Mrs. Rebecca said that I only have to bring one cake kept in the glass (the wedding cake) and have the other cakes brought to school during the exhibition. This said, I have to only take pictures of the rest of my cakes to be shown to Mr. Pat.
INFORMATION

As mentioned earlier, I managed to finish my third cake. The process of cake three went pretty smoothly. I covered each tier with white fondant first. Then, I took my royal icing that I made previously, thawed and rewhipped it to the right consistency. I piped some pattern based on the lace, but not brushing it off as I firstly planned to do it because everyone said that for this cake, it is better to leave the piping detailed that way. Cutting the fondant silhouettes was not hard as well, and I finished them in one night. I stuck the pieces onto the cake, and made some pearls to be put around the tiers. Finally, I brushed off some glitter to the pearls to leave off that ‘fairytale’ and ‘magical’ sense to the cake
.
